Ecruteak City

Things were weird in this strange new world but something that seemed universal was Art. When Yuri had first heard of Ecruteak City he knew he had to visit. He wasn't disappointed as he and Aria his little pink Spritzee wandered the markets at dusk. It was picturesque and something he wished to maybe one day show his mother. Taking his 'phone' out he took some blurry pictures. Technology was strange and he still wasn't used to any of it but being who he was he made due and adapted as best he could. He was pretty happy he had figured out 'selfies' on his own.

"Pree pree!" Aria chirped on his shoulder, directing him towards a food stand of treats he semi recognized. He walked over to the stall handing over some currency in exchange for what he assumed was a crepe with different fruits and whipped cream. The pair made their way exploring as they shared the delicious sweet treat. Aria had some whipped cream on her beak which Yuri couldn't help but chuckle at before wiping it off. "We will have to come back for more sometime. This is simply delicious."

If he is ever quite honest, Dimitri has not cared for Ecruteak in... perhaps a year, now, it has been since his first visit into the place. There are simply too many unpleasant associations with the city, and it was already coming in with a disadvantage because of the ghost type gym that makes its home here. Even nice Valentines dates with his loves could not really help Dimitri override that negativity.

Still, sometimes, there are things that cannot be helped, and one of those is that Ecruteak is one of the best places where one can go get clothing traditional to this land and its neighbor. At least, in the Johto area, although Dimitri cannot speak for Kanto. And so he is here, hoping to get something nice for his family. Christmas may be a long ways away, but these things take a long time to prepare! Especially for the number.

So he's here with Selkie, who helps best with such matters ~~and also cheats using her powers to get proper measurements without anyone knowing~~, when he decides to make a brief detour. It would be good to get some food, after all, even if he cannot truly enjoy it...

In his head, he thinks he will simply get whichever catches his attention first. It doesn't really matter in the end. And yet, what actually catches his attention isn't food or a restaurant or a stall, but instead some very familiar purple hair.

He dares not make any assumptions, not immediately, but instead drifts just a little bit closer as Selkie the Indeedee trails behind him patiently. "...Yuri?"

This city wasn't anything fancy compared to some of the other towns they had visited but there was a sense of odd nostalgia here. It was perhaps due to the fact there was a theater. That had been the main reason he wanted to visit, a chance to enjoy some new culture and their arts. The fact that a 'Now auditioning' sign had been plastered around town of course wasn't the true reason. Of course not.

Ever the skilled tactician, he wasn't just enjoying the sights for fun. He was making a mental map incase need be. He'd figured out early on there weren't too many dangers in this world but he wasn't going to let that keep him unprepared. He had no weapons but he did still have his mind.

It was that exact foresight that had him alerted at being followed. Being weaponless he made sure to keep to an open area in case he needed assistance. The moment he heard the deep tenor voice behind him, he relaxed.

"It seems I haven't been brought here alone."He turned, not at all surprised to see Dimitri towering over him. "Why in the goddesses name are you are walking around alone. Shouldn't you have that big oaf with you at all times, your highness?" He has a hand on his hip and an slender violet eyebrow raised in question.

Aria takes her owners distraction as a blessing and continues to enjoy the crepe in his hands, getting whipped cream all over herself.

"He has a name," Dimitri says automatically, without thinking twice about it. It's been very neatly over a year since he first arrived in Johto, and yet old habits from his school days will apparently die harder than anything else.

Still, he is getting sidetracked, he realizes. "At any rate, Dedue is - at the home that we have made for ourselves here," he says, correcting himself awkwardly. There is a lot to say here, and he nearly does not know where to start. "But why inquire on him, specifically?"

Surely, he should be quicker about this, a little more sly, analystical. But he has never felt those to be his strong suits, even with royal education backing it. Although, now that he has gotten over his surprise...

"Yuri, forgive the strangeness of my question, but what is the last thing you remember of Fodlan?"

Well so much for teasing. This Dimitri is off, honestly it reminds him of how he was prior to some months ago. Honestly Yuri was pretty sure they were past this 'attitude' that Dimitri had but he guessed not. If he was going to act that way then he would back off a bit but he wasn't going to apologize.

Adjusting his stance he put a hand on his hip so that Aria could keep eating the crepe in his other. Yuri found he wasn't very hungry anymore, despite how deliciously sweet the treat had been. "I'm merely wondering why a soon to be King is without his guard."

Honestly Dimitri even when more sane was always strange so while his questioning wasn't too shocking, it still seemed odd. "We were on our way to Fort Merceus, the impregnable fortress. Is that not what you remember of our home?"

Dimitri's expression probably tells all it needs to, quite frankly, and yet he still pauses for a moment to more properly get the words together. It should be easy, considering Yuri is not the first person from Fodlan to arrive here.

Strangely, it is somehow not any easier.

"This place has a very peculiar property," he finally manages, which seems like a fair enough starting point. "Even for those who may have known one another in their homeland... There is no guarantee that they are from the same time together, whether that means one is from the start of a war or in the aftermath, or... If it is changed entirely with key choices having been changed. But you are certain that it was I that was traveling with you to Fort Merceus? Along with Professor Byleth?"

Dimitri's face told a very interesting story, but his words told him an even better one. It seemed there was a bit of mystery to this place after all. If what Dimitri said was true, than the man before him wasn't exactly the Dimitri he knew and fought for. That could make things complicated for sure. He wasn't sure what Dimitri knew or didn't and if this Dimitri's time even had a version of himself working on the same side, or perhaps an enemy. If it was the former this would go over well, but if it was the later...he didn't want to find himself at Dimitri's wrath.

"Perhaps it's better if you tell me what you remember of our home before I answer. I'd like to know if we are even of a similar timeline, just perhaps from different points." This was already starting to give Yuri a headache, if meeting everyone was this complicated he wasn't sure he wanted to meet any other 'old friends'.

Aria was feeling her owners unease and started to curl up against his neck, the pink spritzee almost disappearing against his lavender hair. Yuri felt her shiver and patted her head. "Shush, it's okay." Honestly he wasn't a hundred percent sure he believed his own words.
