Thancred Waters | Final Fantasy XIV

[wordsinthesoul]

Route 29

[Thancred is still very puzzled by this whole business- how did he arrive here, and who was that- but, well. Time to adjust this this world, and figure out what they're all about here- and for now, that means working out what to make of his new partner. The Rockruff seems patient enough to wait for a command, sitting with tail wagging.]

Well- let's see what you can do. Show me- [this is so very strange, and if he's honest he doesn't much like the idea of having something else fight for him, but-] A Tackle?

[The Rockruff barks and gets up, but- his idea of a tackle appears to be slobbering all over his pants. Thancred… puts a hand down on the Rockruff's head, pushing it back gently.]

…we'll work on that.

Ruins of Alph

[So- certainly this area seems as though enough people come past, if the presence of tour guides is any- well, guide, but call Thancred curious all the same. He's looking for anyone nearby, ready to approach them.]

Might you be thinking of heading inside?

route 29

[prayreturn]

[ You know, it wasn't just a coincidence Minfilia was back here. She'd decided to let her twin Meowstic come visit their home - but she freezes when she hears a familiar voice.

Before her eyes begin to tear up a little. She tries not to, of course. Before suddenly rushing up, jumping off of her mount Pokemon.

She's missed him. More then she'd like to admit, even if something feels. Weird. ] Thancred--?!

[Well- he has new clothes, but that’s probably not so unexpected. It could be the way he’s holding himself- the self-assurance in his stance less cocky, and more earned. Or that he lets his shock show openly for a few moments, before he smiles- surprised and confused, but also heartened and glad.]

Minfilia-? You’re here, too? Dare I assume you arrived the same way?

[But how, he can’t help wondering- noting, too, she doesn’t look as he last remembers seeing her. He steps closer, the Rockruff matching him, curious about this new person and the Pokémon with her.]

[prayreturn]

Waking with one who claims to be family, before being thrusted out into another land? Yes. [ But there's a gentleness to how she says that. Almost... a relief?

She gives a small wave at the Rockruff, before her expression grows a little harder to read, looking at Thancred. ] That was a few moons ago.

[He relaxes, a little.] Well. It’s certainly good to know it wasn’t a unique experience- but who is she?

[The Rockruff wags his tail, clearly thrilled, and bounds forward, stopping just in front of Minfilia with one paw up to ask for petting. Thancred shakes his head, squatting to put a hand on his head.]

Patience, now. [He looks up at Minfilia, observing her- looking for how she’s changed.] That’s some time to be in a new place. How has it treated you?

[prayreturn]

Just one of the mysteries of this star, I assume.

[ But Minfilia squats down as well! She's clearly more buff... but she looks so, so much like she did before. ] This land has been peaceful. Nice. Even if there have been some issues - but what land doesn't have them?

[wordsinthesoul]

Of which there are many- at a guess?

[He gives her a curious look, wondering- but he's a little proud, too. She's grown.] That's good to hear. You've more than deserved it. [He sighs lightly, shoulders slumping down a little.] Few enough, I suppose- I can't quite think what that would be like. Why don't you tell me about some of them?

[prayreturn]

Yes - least of how is how it decides who comes. [ She begins to pet the Rockruff as she talks. ] And when they come from. I am not the first from our star to awaken here, though it seems those who came before came from a future yet to come.

[wordsinthesoul]

Has anyone learned aught of that? [The Rockruff makes a happy sound, leaning into Minfilia's petting. Thancred makes an amused sound, settling down- but he hesitates for a moment.] Minfilia…

[He wants to know who else is here, but- he worried about her. He reaches for her hand.]

…how have you been, knowing that?

[prayreturn]

[ Thancred? Asking about feelings? There's a hesitation as she next speaks, her hand having stopped on the rock dog. ] You must be from that future, then.

When I'm gone.

[wordsinthesoul]

[The Rockruff whines, trying to nuzzle Minfilia's hand back into patting him. Thancred stills, on the other hand, though he nods slowly after a few moments.]

I'm sorry.

[It feels like- barely a whisper, in the face of the grief when he knew she wasn't coming back- of having to let her go. What else can he say, save-] I missed you.

Route 29

[crystalmaster]

[Radley's sweet Eevee sees new friends and rushes over. "Vee-vee-vee!"

Radley hurries after her, chuckling.]

Sorry, she does that with everyone.

[The Rockruff perks up, with a "Ruff", and bounds over, doing a play-bow, tail wagging. Friend??

Thancred shakes his head, but offers a smile, turning towards the two of them.]

It's quite alright- we've just been getting our feet under us. [Well, mostly him, admittedly.] And she certainly seems friendly. Have you been together long?

[Evie dances around and wants to play!]

She is. We've been together several months now. I can't imagine life without her.

[Radley smiles.]

I'm Radley. I named her Evie, which wasn't too creative, but she seems to like it.

[wordsinthesoul]

[The Rockruff follows, very excited, tailwagging furiously. Is she ready to play chase?]

I can certainly understand that. I'm sure you're very fond of each other, then.

I'm Thancred. And… ah, I'm afraid he doesn't have a name quite yet. [It's… something he's probably overthinking, honestly.] Well- that is the important part, isn't it?

[crystalmaster]

[Evie takes off running!]

We really are. We bonded right away.

[He chuckles.]

I actually didn't name her right away either, and then I realized I couldn't imagine calling her anything but Eevee, her species name. So I turned that into E-V-I-E, which is an actual name people have back home.

[wordsinthesoul]

[The Rockruff barks, excited, darting one way before stopping and waiting.]

Ah, I see now… It's a good name. Does it have a meaning, in your home?

[crystalmaster]

[Radley smiles.]

Thanks. It means "Life," which is perfect. She loves life.

[wordsinthesoul]

[He nods, glancing after the two Pokemon.]

Indeed- she's certainly very energetic! It's something to start with, then.

[crystalmaster]

Yeah. It makes the species name fit perfectly too. I haven't met an Eevee who doesn't love life. They're so happy and cute.

[wordsinthesoul]

So perhaps that led to their species name- or perhaps that's simply coincidence. [He chuckles.] She certainly exemplifies that! I take it you've met many others?

Ruins of Alph

[stardiving]

[Estinien glances over--the man is wearing different clothing, but it's undeniably Thancred, and he doesn't think much of responding.]

Absolutely not.

[He does appear to be rather...nervous about being here? Odd. It's a fairly bright, sunny afternoon, birds are singing, but he appears to be wanting to be anywhere but here.

The Alolan Ninetales at his side is equally jumpy. She remembers exactly what went down when they first visited this place and is not about to let it happen again on her watch.]

[Some things are different, and some things aren't, and so- this certainly seems like Estinien. Thancred cocks his head, raising his eyebrows.]

Beenin before, then, have you?

[It doesn't seem as though it was pleasant, from that reaction, but that makes him wonder what's down there more.]

There are spirits.

[And before Thancred can spend too long sitting with the incredulity that the (former) Azure Dragoon of all people is afraid of ghosts, he elaborates.]

And they are capable of possessing people. I care not to repeat that experience.

[He's pretty sure you'll get why.]

[Well, the sort of trouble they are depends on the manner of spirit they are- but at that, Thancred's expression goes from interested to dour, eyebrows drawing in.]

Ah. Well, that's hardly one I could blame you for.
