Ulaz | Voltron Legendary Defender

[For most people, they wouldn't realize there was much difference as he looked like a normal human except for the fact that he is bald except for a white mohawk. Even those who do know him might not recognize him immediately as he does not have the typical Galra markers that he had before.

But here is Ulaz, clearly not far from setting off. And he doesn't look very amused]

I require some information willing to provide it. What is this place and how did I end up here like this? Suddenly changing species is not one that someone would expect.

[There was a sound from somewhere nearby and Ulaz moved to scoop up the poochyena and hold it so he was in basically the same position as before, but holding the pokemon now, which looks even smaller than normal probably because Ulaz is taller than normal]

I have also been given this small canine. Ironic I think, but I do rather like it.

[It seems to be happy with him as well at least]

[Ulaz didn't seem to be too interested in resort side of this town. He was still perfectly willing to camp out with his poochyena, pretty much always be his side. Poochyena is slower than he is when running unfortunately so he had to be careful testing out his new strength and speed levels lest he might lose track of the pokemon. He had grown fond of it rather quickly.

He was currently on the beach with his poochyena as they enjoyed a meal together. That was something they could bond over and if they were going to be together for a while, bonding was good]

Guess you haven't been this far either.

Azalea Town
[Well, this place was more his style. Not that he had ever had a "style" for a place to live, but seemed to be nice enough. Plus there was the treetop adventure park... a shame though that it required a fee when he probably could have made his own zipline if he really wanted to figure it out with the materials on hand.

But the most perplexing thing about this town: all the slowpokes. They were very slow and didn't seem to be the brightest creatures around. He eventually found a spot sitting on the edge of the well, watching them]

They're rather cute, though.

[Romelle had recently arrived back in Azalea to continue her badge challenge. She didn't recognize Ulaz at all, other than the fact that he was somewhat tall for a human and had a unique hairstyle. But, she did recognize a newbie when she saw one, so she had come over to see if he needed any help.

Inside the town line, they didn't have to battle upon sight, either, so it was just her being genuinely helpful.

She settled down to watch the Slowpoke down in the well also. And, while she didn't have her Altean abilities such as superior strength and endurance or shapeshifting or even a link to quintessence, she certainly had maintained her appearance. She looked identical to her normal physical look back home... complete with pointed ears and teal facial markings.]

[Surprise, Ulaz. There was another Altean besides Allura and Coran.]

They do have their charm.

[Even if he had no idea how they could possibly be useful in a battle, he couldn't find fault in them just for existing. They were living beings after all.

Ulaz too didn't recognize Romelle for who she was, but he did recognize the markings of an Altean. Apparently they were human enough that they didn't have to change species the way he had... but that it easier to tell.

Poochyena looked up at her from its nap on the other side of Ulaz, but quickly curled back up again. Nothing too exciting. They weren't battling at the moment]

Yes, I have arrived only recently. It is all quite strange.

[He was unable to keep his attention completely off the fact she had Altean markings and realizing that he was staring, he just went for the question rather than beating around the bush]

You are Altean?

[She chuckled a little, and nodded. They certainly did have a kind of charm to them. She'd been considering adopting one.

She settled in and nodded at his comment.]

It definitely is. I was rather startled by the whole thing. Waking up, having some strange woman claim to be my mother before pushing me out the door with nothing more than a creature I knew nothing about and a small pack of supplies. But, this world is actually quite nice. I've been able to relax here.

[But his next comment got a curious expression from her, and she nodded.]

Ah... yes, I am. You know of them? [That would mean he was likely from some version of her world, then.]

[The man shown in the response video isn't visibly Galra either, although there are a couple of tells. Human irises aren't usually bright gold, for one, and the streaks in his hair are actually faint lavender rather than the grey they might be mistaken for at first glance.

Thace for his part is almost bursting with hope. Could it be? It very well could, but the transformation to human does complicate matters. At least there's instant confirmation that this man was also another species.]

Brother...?

[It's soft and hopeful, but quiet enough to be easily brushed aside if it doesn't get the response he's hoping for. A brother Blade (who's been a Blade longer than young Keith has) would be so welcome.]

To answer your questions, you are in another world, or reality if you prefer that term for it. Everyone brought here from their home realities is changed to fit the human norms for the most part. The most prominent theory as to how is that the being locally considered a god brings us here for some purpose known only to them. It takes a while to get used to the change in species, but the Pokemon partners and the peaceful state of this world almost make up for it completely.

[Yes, those were very good tells indeed, considering Ulaz had never really seen that in most of the races that they had knowledge of. It was something decidedly Galran as far as he was aware.

He did hear the very faint comment before the other started speaking. He was almost positive who he was speaking to, but he didn't was to presume either]

Knowledge or death.

[Well, he was at least fairly certain that he was speaking with another Blade]

I see. That is interesting information. Given how little I have seen of this world so far, I will take your word as to why this has happened. But certainly agree about the Pokemon partners.

[He'd only had this little guy for maybe an hour and he would already protect him with his life]

Knowledge or death. It's so good to see another sibling Blade here. Brother Keith is here, but I don't get to see him often.

[For reasons that he's not going to burden someone with right on arrival. But he does adjust the camera view to a more wide shot of what could be a cozy little apartment, with lots of Pokemon hanging around. Including an animate sword who waves her tassel at the camera when mentioned.]

[Thace has never made his interest in the history and culture of the Empire before the corruption a secret among the other Blades. He's a nerd and proud of it.]

[The species change sure does throw someone for a loop. At the moment, all he sees is a new arrival needing assistance. And where there's someone on the network needing a hand, Shiro's there.]

[No uh. Pun intended.]

Unfortunately, species changing seems to happen regularly when people wake up here. From what we know, one of the more powerful creatures in this place has the ability to summon sentient beings from all different realities. We haven't been able to locate it, or verify whether or not that's true. That's the going theory for as long as I've been here.

[He does smile, though, at the Poochyena.]

Having the pokemon around helps a lot, with adjusting.

[A familiar face among all of this insanity of adjusting to being a different species. He glanced over at Poochyena for a moment]

They do seem to help, yes.

[While Poochyena were supposed to be at least attempt aggressiveness, this one at least seemed to like Ulaz enough already. Maybe it figured best to be friends with the tall human rather than try to pick a fight]

[Whatever he's expecting, recognition isn't it. The last time he'd been in his home universe had been five years ago now. He hesitates to respond, frowning, trying to place something here.]

Indeed. While some physical characteristics are the same, quite a few Altean abilities have changed. Forgive me, but... are you Ulaz?

[Yes, this is an Altean he recognized. Since he had seen her - for him - not long ago. Poochyena spots the fox and wiggled a bit as though that would make it easier to see it]

[There hasn't been a drop of regret for how she treated the man, not when he was alive for a few phoebs after his death. But almost losing Keith... it had put much more than her treatment of the Red Paladin in perspective.]

It is strange that there is some force that is requiring a change. I have no issue with humans, but it is different than how I was before. It will take some adjusting.

[He didn't know about the anti-magic part. Not that he could do magic, but he would be sympathetic to her plight if she was such a magic user]

Ironic in that... I believe my species would be better classified as descending from felines.

[Camilla is curiously looking at the strange pink Pokémon, following one who seemed to be moving towards some sort of goal, admiring the way its legs moved slowly but surely.

That's when she hears someone speak and looks up only to find someone admiring the beauty of these creatures as well.]

[Well, it definitely seems that they are not devoid of intelligence as he watched some of them move with a definite goal. They were just very slow about it. What natural adaptation had led to that? Seemed almost counterintuitive.

Poochyena seemed, for the moment, not consider them worth the time to even growl at - maybe because it took them so long to act scared that it wasn't any fun - so a nap next to Ulaz was in order.

Very. I have not seen anything like them.

They're a really bright colour, which I did not expect from a creature so slow.

[The man who replies looks sympathetic, to say the least; he remembers showing up here, with no idea what was going on, his body having been completely changed - and he has to imagine it's much worse for anyone more... attached to their previous physical form.]

The place is Johto; if you've just arrived, you should be in or near New Bark Town. I... only wish I could answer the rest, but that is still all somewhat... unclear to me, myself.

It seems like it would be a difficult thing to figure out, how something here is able to change something so fundamental.

It certainly is; I have never had an outside force change my form so entirely before.

[Changing shape by his own power is one thing - and still one that takes quite a bit of effort - but this is new, and still strange.]

But, then, I suppose a being capable of drawing people from such different, far-flung realities must have a lot of power... changing those people's shapes is just one more step.

Unfortunately, this place is like that. If you're not human, you'll be made human. Ah, this place being the region of Johto--and if you've just arrived, you're probably in New Bark Town. Most of us end up there when we first come of this world.

[He didn't but Rockets are special cases.]

As far as how you end up here, well, that's a matter of some debate, honestly. Most people blame the god of this world, which I understand is a llama from outer space.

Strange that they would want others of different races to all look the same. While I can agree not all races are particularly pleasant to look at, not all are so bad.

Yes, I believe that is where I ended up if the information is correct.

I don't really get why they turn us all human either, but they do.

Ah, a llama is a kind of animal from my world. Quadrupedal, long-necked, and covered with fluffy wool. All depictions I've seen of the god of this world seem very reminiscent of them.
